WHOOP alternatives for sleep and recovery tracking

Two options to compare, set out by how you buy them and what each brand lists.

Updated · By Alexander Speir, Sensory Haven Co. · Specs from each brand's own pages

WHOOP 5.0 is sold as a membership with the device included. Some people prefer to buy a device once, or would rather wear a ring than a strap. Below are two alternatives we have compared side by side with WHOOP, using each brand's own pages. Both track sleep, heart rate and recovery-related data.

The alternatives

1. Hume Band 2.0: buy once, free app

Hume sells the Band 2.0 as a device with the free Hume Health app, and states that no subscription is required to use it or access your raw data. It tracks heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, sleep stages, skin temperature, strain and recovery, and Hume lists up to 14 days per charge. Hume Premium adds AI coaching if you want it. Read the Hume Band 2.0 review or the full Hume Band 2.0 vs WHOOP 5.0 guide.

2. Oura Ring 5: a ring instead of a strap

Oura makes a titanium ring in sizes 6 to 13 with a 100 m water rating and typically 6 to 9 days per charge. Oura says an active membership is needed for detailed insights; without one you see three daily scores. See Hume Band 2.0 vs Oura Ring 5.
