How they differ

Where you wear it

This is the main choice. The Band 2.0 sits on your wrist on an adjustable strap. The Oura Ring 5 is a titanium ring in sizes 6 to 13, with six finishes. Some people prefer a ring; others prefer a strap they can adjust or swap.

Sensors and readings

Hume lists 5 LEDs and 4 photodiodes and tracks heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, sleep stages, skin temperature, strain and recovery. Oura lists two tri-LEDs, two photodetectors, a temperature sensor and an accelerometer in the Ring 5, and builds its app around daily sleep, readiness and activity scores.

Battery and water

Hume lists up to 14 days per charge for the Band 2.0. Oura lists 6 to 9 days for the Ring 5, with about 80 minutes to recharge. For water, Oura rates the Ring 5 to 100 m, while Hume rates the Band IP68 up to 1 m for up to 2 hours.

App and plans

Hume states that no subscription is required to use the Band or access raw data, with Hume Premium as an optional extra. Oura says detailed insights need an active Oura Membership. Without one you see the three daily scores, and new members get the first month included.
