Both devices track sleep, heart rate variability and recovery around the clock. The biggest difference is the buying model. How they differ
Buying model
With the Hume Band 2.0 you pay for the hardware, and Hume states that no subscription is needed to use it or to access your raw data. Hume Premium is an optional paid plan that adds AI coaching. WHOOP works the other way round: you pick one of three membership tiers, and the WHOOP 5.0 device comes as part of it. Features such as the charger type and some insights depend on the tier.
Battery and charging
Hume lists up to 14 days per charge for the Band 2.0 and a recharge of about 20 to 80 minutes. WHOOP lists 14+ days for WHOOP 5.0 and about 2 hours for a full charge. WHOOP also offers a Wireless PowerPack that charges the sensor while you wear it, included with the Peak tier.
What you see in the app
Hume shows the underlying metrics: heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, sleep stages, skin temperature and strain and recovery. WHOOP builds its experience around three daily scores, Recovery, Sleep and Strain, with extras such as VO2 Max and heart rate zones. Both approaches cover sleep and recovery. The question is whether you prefer raw numbers or guided scores.
Wearing it
The Band 2.0 sits on an adjustable strap. WHOOP 5.0 has no screen and can be moved from the wrist into WHOOP Body garments, which some people prefer for sport or sleep.
After you buy
Hume offers 45-day returns and a 1-year warranty. WHOOP lists a 30-day window to return and cancel, and a warranty that lasts as long as your membership is active. Both brands list their products as HSA/FSA eligible.
